Neuropsychiatric Institute (NPI/UCLA) Seminars

Psychology fellows at Harbor-UCLA are invited to attend any seminar offered to fellows and interns at the UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute. Attendance is determined by interest and availability of the fellow.  The course catalogue is available in the Psychology main office.

Departmental Grand Rounds

Weekly 1 1/2 hour conferences are sponsored by the Department of Psychiatry.  Lectures are presented by internationally prominent speakers, many of whom present to UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute earlier in the day.  Examples of past topics include:  psychiatry involvement in custody matters, biological approaches to depression, late life psychosis, finances of health care, research on multiple personalities, cross cultural data on various disorders and alternative medicines.

Service Unit Conferences

Each service in the Department of Psychiatry holds frequent conferences on topics that pertain to that service. The Child Psychology Division and the Adult Outpatient Units frequently invite speakers to discuss cases on relevant issues.  The psychology fellow is expected to attend conferences on the unit where he or she is working, and invited to attend these conferences when serving elsewhere.

Resident (PGY) Seminars

Two didactic seminars per week are offered to the psychiatry residents; PGY I (Post-Gradaute Year I) seminars are for interns, PGY II are for second-year residents. These are open to psychology fellows with permission of individual instructors. Topics cover general psychiatry, from DSM IV diagnostic categories to therapy theories and biological treatments.
